September Beveridge Club - Conference Look Ahead

  • 10 Sep 2026
  • 7.00 pm - 10.00 pm
  • 33-35 High Street
    Sutton
    SM1 1DJ

We're at a pivot point. With another new PM in Downing Street, and an ever more uncertain world, the choices the party makes at this moment could make all the difference in the years to come.

That's why we're asking you to join us for a special Beveridge Club - where the real guest speaker is all of you!

With one of the party's most important Autumn Conferences in recent years coming up - we're gathering together to highlight and debate some of the controversial policy motions coming down the track.

We have selected four motions from the conference agenda to debate here in Sutton.  The full conference agenda is here https://www.libdems.org.uk/a26-agenda  The full text of each motion is included in the agenda. As many of the motions are quite long, you may wish to read them in advance of the meeting.

Judy Walsh will be chairing the evening to debate:

  • Supporting people to age well (page 82 of the agenda) - ageing affects us all, irrespective of our own demographic.  With the number of people aged over 85 set to double by 2045, what should our response be to the challenge of frailty and ageing?
  • Tackling illegal e-bikes and dangerous riding (p 98) - we support more active cycling, but is more regulation needed?
  • Feeding Britain: a food security emergency (p 100) - the drought is only one of a number of factors affecting the food chain.  What should be done to make Britain more self-sufficient?
  • Turning electoral breakthrough into Lasting Liberal Strength (p 63) - do you agree with the results of the party's strategic review, and what needs to be done to develop a clear, compelling national narrative?

For each there will be a brief summary highlighting particularly any controversial points before opening it to the floor for discussion.

If you have particular knowledge and experience in any of these areas and would be interested in leading the discussion with one of us, please do let us know.

Come along even (perhaps especially!) if you're not going to Brighton for conference this year, to make sure you have your say on the issues up for debate.

Tickets are free as usual (though the venue would appreciate us buying drinks at the bar - non alcoholic available) - but please book below!
