We're delighted to be returning to the splendid National Liberal Club in Westminster for our annual fundraising dinner on Tuesday 3rd November.

Special guest speaker: Tim Farron (MP for Westmorland and Lonsdale; spokesperson for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs). Tim will be reflecting on Andy Burnham's first 100 days in office and what this means for the Lib Dems.

Calum Miller has been the Liberal Democrat MP for Bicester and Woodstock since July 2024 and is the party’s Foreign Affairs Spokesperson. A former County Councillor, he has a strong track record of standing up for his local community. Before entering Parliament, Calum was a senior fellow at Oxford University and a senior civil servant in the Cabinet Office, Foreign Office and Treasury.

We recently announced that former Member of the European Parliament and local Councillor Jane Brophy has been selected as the Liberal Democrat prospective parliamentary candidate for Altrincham and Sale West.

Join us for an evening of ghost hunting, as organised by Havelock Hauntings and Dark Realm Paranormal. 

Expert paranormal investigators from Dark Real Paranormal and Havelock Tower Hauntings will guide us around the building and let us take part in several paranormal experiments and let us use their specialist equipment, all of which will be explained to us throughout the evening. 

Activities will include table-tipping, ouija board, planchette, seances, vigils and the estes method. Expect to be able to use equipment such activity electromagentic field devices, electronic voice phenomenon euqipment, spirit boxes, night vision equipment, motion sensors and others.

The evening will consist of two groups of 12. All activities and experiments are optional. You will not have to take part in anything you find uncomfortable.

We are usually at Table 5, so order and pay at the bar for your drinks and food (if you are eating) and then join us, on the 2nd Monday of each month from 18:30 until 21:00 at The Orchard pub in Archer's Gate, SP4 7XT when some of our councillors - not just the Lib Dems - get together with whoever turns up for informal chat.  The conversation is organic and it goes where it flows, but we're just like-minded people getting together over a drink or two.

Andrew has been a key part of our fightback against the SNP wining back areas of the Highlands that we lost in 2015.

Following the May local elections, overall control of Haringey Council hangs by just one seat, meaning even a single by-election could change the balance of power.

Because of this, it is also necessary that we remain visible in all of our target wards through a steady stream of high-quality literature. All money raised from this event will go directly towards achieving these aims.

Motions:

- to appoint an independent examiner of 2026 accounts.

We will also hear from Wera Hobhouse MP, Council Leader Kevin Guy and also from our newly selected PPC for NESH Laura Willoughby.

At the end of the meeting, we will vote on the formal re-selection of Wera Hobhouse as candidate for the Bath for the next general election. Voting will only be for members from the Bath constituency.

Nominations

Nominations are now open for Officer and Executive Committee roles for 2027. Details are on the application form available here. Please apply no later than noon on Friday 20th November by completing and returning the form to nominations@bathneslibdems.org.uk or by post to The Returning Officer, Bath, NE Somerset and Hanham Liberal Democrats, 31 James Street West, Bath BA1 2BT. Nominations will close at the meeting.

Event Details

The 2026 Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Liberal Democrats for Electoral Reform (LDER) will be held on November 25 via Zoom, starting at 7:30pm.

In his speech to Labour Party Conference, Prime Minister Andy Burnham announced that he would establish a National Commission for Electoral Reform - to inform a Labour manifesto commitment for the next General Election. 

The Liberal Democrats have been calling for a National Commission for Electoral Reform, alongside allies from across the political spectrum, including through the All Party Parliamentary Group for Fair Elections. 

Is this a breakthrough for PR or a red herring?

Join us for our AGM to find out what LDER has been doing this year; and discuss the prospect for reform under Burnham.
