Have we been inadvertently supporting multipolarity in the building of trust?

  • 20 Sep 2025
  • 1.00 pm - 2.30 pm
  • Exeter Rd,
    Bournemouth
    BH2 5BH

Some UK

politicians become a poster child for its global institutions. Politicians

have attempted to discount the risk of AIIB[1]

and IOMed[2]

to the Rules-Based International Order by framing these institutions in the

language of multipolarity and multilateralism. However, these institutions are not

truly multilateral, as by design they imply and facilitate Chinese, meaning the

CCP, leadership.

And how should we build resilient networks? Labour policy makers seems keen on warming up with China. Yet, our European partners are beginning to grasp discount

the ambition, depth and scale of malign influence in the CCP's whole-of-society approach to defeat the Rules-Based International Order. Why are we living our friends behind? How will this affect strategic resilience?

We discuss these questions ahead of Policy Motion F34.

It has been seven years since the Alderdice Report and one year since the LDCRE Janice Turner Review. Yet, meaningful progress remains limited.

We can no longer accept delays or indecision. It is imperative that we reach out and engage with individuals from all communities regardless of ethnicity, gender, disability, or socio-economic background. There are those who believe this work is unnecessary. We believe it is essential.

This event will bring together speakers with real insight and lived experience. It is time to move beyond superficial solutions. We invite you to listen, reflect, and contribute to a more inclusive and effective movement for change.

Local Plan Briefing

  • 30 Sep 2025
  • 6.30 pm - 8.00 pm

Join us for an unmissable briefing and Q&A session on the Local Plan to learn about the huge challenges we face and how we aim to tackle these.

The Labour Government has thrown B&NES under the bus by more than doubling our housing target (from 717 per year to 1,501 pa). The Lib Dems are not NIMBYs – we recognise our residents face a housing crisis. The need for affordable housing is especially acute. We want to deliver the right homes in the right places. Our guiding principles are sustainability (e.g. not creating new housing areas where everyone is car-dependent), quality, place-making and a preference for large developments which deliver a ‘quantum’ of housing – bringing community benefits (developer funded infrastructure and facilities). We face unique local constraints (including Green Belt and Bath’s World Heritage inscriptions) that make meeting the Government’s controversial housing targets all but impossible. Sign up for your place to get the inside track on this vitally important topic.

THE ARCTIC AND EUROPEAN SECURITY

Astrid Thors, a lawyer, a Finnish politician, former MP and member of European Parliament, the former Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) High Commissioner on National Minorities (2013-2016), former minister of Migration and European Affairs in Finland.
