  • 7.30 pm - 9.30 pm
  • 97 Wood Vale
    Muswell Hill
    London
    N10 3DL

It's London election time, and we're

holding a Cheese and Wine Party to raise much-needed funds for the

Mayoral and London Assembly elections on May 2nd. At these elections,

EVERY SINGLE LIB DEM VOTE COUNTS! So, whether you live in Highgate or

Harringay, Tetherdown or Tottenham your vote has an equal chance of

determining the outcome.

But

fighting elections costs money--and we need your help in raising it.

Join us on April 17th at 97 Wood Vale, Muswell Hill, N10 3DL and hear

from Cllr Hina Bokhari, our lead London candidate and current

London-wide Assembly Member. The cost is just £20.

THE start time is

19:30. If you would like to include an extra donation with your ticket

price, even better!  And if you cannot join us on April 17, we'll miss

you, but would still appreciate a donation in lieu for the election

Fighting Fund.

This

is the year to capitalise on public dissatisfaction with both the

Tories AND Keir Starmer, and get more Lib Dems elected in London.

  • 2.00 pm - 3.15 pm

With a brutal war raging on Europe’s border, John Sweeney has become a familiar figure reporting from Ukraine, switching between his trademark orange hat and a helmet depending on his proximity to Russian snipers. A veteran reporter of numerous conflicts, John has been investigating Vladimir Putin’s crimes for many years, and has written extensively about the threat Russia and other authoritarian regimes around the world pose to liberal democratic values in the West.

He will talk about how it is vital to our security that we support Ukraine in their fight for freedom against Russia, followed by a Q&A session.

John Sweeney is a journalist, author and broadcaster who has worked for The Observer as well as the BBC on the Panorama and Newsnight programmes. In addition to writing and reporting extensively about Russia and Vladimir Putin, he was the reporter in the 2015 Panorama investigation into the Post Office Horizon scandal – the first mainstream news programme to investigate the issue. He’s written 15 books including the Sunday Times best-seller, Killer In The Kremlin. John will be speaking in a personal capacity, and can be expected to discuss issues in his typically robust style!

The Politics of Happiness - An Evening with Anthony Seldon

Why does modern life make us miserable? And why is our country in such a mess? Who better to answer these questions than one of Britain’s most provocative and original public intellectuals, Sir Anthony Francis Seldon FRSA FRHistS FKC.

As well as being the author of 45 books, including acclaimed biographies of consecutive prime ministers from Tony Blair to Boris Johnson, he is an innovative educator, pioneering the promotion of mental well-being and in wider society, both as a headmaster and through Action for Happiness, a charity that he co-founded.

Anthony and our parliamentary candidate Edward Lucas first met when Edward was education correspondent for the Economist in 2003. Don't miss this chance to hear their discussion, with Anthony's wide-ranging and piercingly well-informed views on public policy, and on the urgent need for deep-seated and radical reforms in the way we run our education system - and our country.

Paul Roper, Councillor for Kingsmead Ward and Cabinet Member for Economic and Cultural Sustainable Development will showcase some of the high Street Regeneration programmes and activities that are in progress or under consideration in our communities. This is an opportunity to see how our regeneration resource, developed under a Lib Dem administration is making a real difference to our townscapes.

This zoom event is open to registered members and supporters. Whichever of our three constituencies you live/work in, this should be an interesting and uplifting evening.

Please send any questions for the panel in advance to events@bathneslibdems.org.uk. Please register well in time for the session and we will email you with a zoom link in advance.
